Botanischer Garten des Mittelalters
Marksburg 1, 56338 Braubach
There is a botanical garden of the Middle Ages at Marksburg Castle, which is part of the World Heritage Garden Route in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The approximately 500 square meter demonstration garden is based on medieval garden culture and stretches along the walls of the Zwinger complex. Created in 1967, the garden displays around 150 different plant species that were cultivated and used in the Middle Ages. These include supposed witch and magic plants as well as medicinal and aromatic plants. Signs provide information about the old names, the Latin technical terms and today's names. Access is only possible as part of a guided tour.
